Shared Purpose

We are partnering with BS&MA to support the shared purpose of keeping the drum beat going in honor of Jared, reaching disadvantaged kids and offering the gift of a music education. With these scholarships, we will be able to bring private music instruction to communities that would not have access to high-quality music lessons.

Benefits of a Music Education

Researchers at Northwestern University published a report that music lessons can help at-risk and low-income youth maintain their ability to read at grade level. The study found that teaching children how to play an instrument touches upon many essential literacy skills, such as developing an ear for rhythm and enriching the complexity and diversity of sounds—an important path to reading—for students from more impoverished homes.

In 2023, we have 22 scholars at Boulder Symphony and Music Academy, making up 20% of their student population. There are 20 applicants on our wait list.
